Entrepreneur, Paradigm Changer, Inspiration, Success Seeker

At her Cousin Kathy’s wedding. Yes that’s Jan in the center, at age 62 some 71 lbs down.

After years as a successful serial entrepreneur, Jan Hurwitz (JB) found herself struggling with the disease she calls “Normal” – Fat, Sick, Dying and Broke in almost every way she could imagine.

One business she owned was an Internet Service that had been a run-away success. When Jan and her Husband, Phil, started it nine years earlier, the employees at the phone company were laughing.

Jan chuckles as she remembers the conversation when she was letting a lineman in the building to do some work. “You know they’re taking bets on you guys”, he said. “What?”, She recalls responding. “They are taking bets on how long it will be before you guys are out of business. They say it’s a flash in the pan, this Internet thing.”, the lineman continued … “I gave you nine months”.  Already accustomed to embarking on adventures people laughed at, Jan and Phil moved forward.

Nine years later, their Internet Service had 10,000 subscribers.  The phone company decided that they wanted the business and didn’t want to pay for it.  Phil was in a serious rear-end car accident and was then diagnosed with a rare-incurable heart disease that he would not survive.

Life changed in an instant. Juggling the businesses, multiple surgeries and Phil’s illness, Jan suddenly found herself in what felt like the perfect storm of a tornado.  “It was a one, two, three – you’re supposed to be down for the count – kind of a punch”, she said.  “I wasn’t a stranger to hard work or adversity.  I wasn’t a stranger to being laughed at for career choices I made”, she said.  This time, however, I felt like I was being thrown around in a tornado and didn’t know which end of the it I was going to get tossed out of”.

“We were fighting one of our key suppliers at the Pennsylvania Utility Commission and negotiating the sale of our largest and most successful business.  At the same time, we were also dealing with his illnesses and the after-effects of the automobile accident.”

Totally unprepared spiritually, emotionally, physically and financially for the journey she suddenly found herself on, Jan picked herself up and began the journey back to health and abundance in all areas of life.  Today she inspires people everywhere to take back their lives.
